Even before I was born, my Mother has been collecting the Royal Albert China Pattern "Old Country Roses". As a child, we only ever saw her pull it out of her china cabinet once, maybe twice a year-usually Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This year however, I found it fitting to pull them out, and dust them off! I wanted to create a table for Mother's Day-a table that I knew would be personal to her, and celebrate our family, and it's milestones over the years. It seems it all came together beautifully.
Not only did we bring the china out, but some other precious pieces also found their way to the table from her china cabinet as well.
The silver tray with gold filigree handles, was a gift to my parents from my Aunt and Uncle who are no longer with us {it is engraved with their names and wedding date as well}. Another wedding gift to them was the filgree silver tea cups that we used.
Each place setting, was adorned with beautiful seating cards, that were made out of some pretty cards with a floral and gold print that I found on one of my outings. I actually used some pretty address labels, and with an exacto knife, cut out around the main flower and butterfly in order to slip the label in. It looked stunning when we placed them on each plate!
We used gold chargers to accentuuate the print from the damask table linen, and used the small tea cups paired with a larger glass with gold accent for a morning mimosa.
We also added in my Mother's ivory knives, which used to belong to my Grandmother.
Since my Mother's parents are no longer with us, we felt it very fitting to incorporate the yellow roses. Not only are they prominant throughout the china pattern, but yellow roses were my Grandfather's favourite flower. My Grandmother used to buy or plant yellow roses in memory of him.
We added in a few pearls just because it fit with our theme so well being that it was Mother's Day :)
It came together perfectly, it was such a fresh, clean and beautifully feminine table. I even took a rose moulds and made the butter for the scones look like little roses!
My Mom was so happy-all these years, and her table had never come to life with her beautiful china-until now.
Have a Beautiful Day!
