Ways the Royal Wedding Challenged Tradition

Where you as teary-eyed and goosebumped as I was watching the Royal Couple exchange their vows this morning??
Yes I was up with most of the world at 4:30AM EST to witness History in the making as a Commoner became new Duchess of Cambridge.
It was somewhat sentimental to me in my own way, since 30 years ago I watched the Wedding of Prince Charles to Diana, and now, years later, I witnessed their eldest tie the knot with my own daughter (who is almost the same age that I was in 1981).
There was a difference in the two.
This one, as regimented as it was, gave way to a softer, and more vulnerable side of the Royal Family. With the absence of his Mother felt, there were still many unspoken hommages paid to her-not just her stunning engagement ring. There was a magnificent fusion of the elegance of Kate, Diana, and Princess Grace of Monaco, combined with something that all 3 Princesses possessed: modesty of coming from the commonwealth.

While the Dress, and decor were kept elegantly simplistic, there were quite a few traditions that were noticeably changed from the norm.

Best Man: This is the first time in a Royal Wedding where there was a Best Man. Usually there are Wedding "Supporters" But Harry was made the official Best Man.

Kate's Tiara: As when The Duchess Sarah Ferguson was married, she went into the Church with a flowered wreath on her head, and came out with her Tiara. Thus symbolizing her move from Commoner to a Royal. The fact that Kate's Cartier Halo Tiara was a gift from the Queen herself, speaks volumes.

Kate's Do (or Un-Do): A few days ago, this topic was heavily splattered all over the news that Kate would be Royally frowned upon for wearing her hair down, instead of up. I have to disagree (as a bride who also wore my hair down) she looked luminous-and like her naturally beautiful self. We also have another thing in common: we both did our own wedding makeup too ;)

Bridesmaids all in white: I love the fact that all of her girls wore white-so simple and pure. Took all of us by surprise considering there were bids on what colour her girls would wear.

Balcony Kiss X 2: Not to upstage his father, who kissed his mother first on the Balcony and started a whole new tradition, but William gave his new Bride 2 kisses instead of the usual 1, which definitely satisfied a crowd that wanted more!

Exchange of...a ring? That's right, the rumour mill was true: Prince William did not get a wedding ring to wear. Just when I thought Man-gagement rings were coming into style, Wills takes it a step in the opposite direction and doesn't wear one at all. Not too sure I like that one, but hey-it's their wedding after all.

Did you get up early to watch the Royal Wedding too? What were your thoughts?

Have a great day!
